We all must be mindful of the balance of giving and taking. There is a symbiotic relationship between all life—an interdependency. When we are unaware of this or disregard this reality, we become very destructive to all we touch.
We begin the process of dehumanization and disconnection.
The 21st century has brought about tremendous change and progress with technology, but how we treat each other quickly degrades. To ensure we expand our ability for compassion we must work at creating more balance in our society.
We've swung way too far in the direction of disconnection.
We will discuss this and much more in today’s show.
Let’s dig in!
What’s Happening in Today’s Episode
Many of us feel this tension in the world—the lack of humanity and the deep sense of isolation that comes with our society. We have much work to correct our path, but many are awakening to this reality.
We no longer treat one another with care and respect. We’ve become less neighborly and caring towards one another. Our communities feel empty and void because so much has been focused on self-centered living.
This has become increasingly destructive in the West. Our inability to dialogue, listen, and support our peers turns life into one big mud-slinging pit. I’m hopeful we can turn things around.
It all begins with compassion and empathy.
Here is a quick highlight of the main topics discussed:
Introduction to the art of giving and taking
The imbalance in our society
The psychology of giving and taking
The benefits of giving
Balancing self-interest and compassion
Practical tips for increasing giving in daily life
Conclusion
The more we can return to kindness, the more we can live in peace. It all begins with each of us in our daily lives. There is no way to impact the world besides our small daily actions. This is both empowering and terrifying.
It means we hold the power for change.
